Targus Extends Leadership in Security Products with New Line of DEFCON™ Combo Locks for Notebook Computers
|
Armor Combo and Serialized Video Port Combo Locks Provide
Range of Security Options for Mobile Users
LAS VEGAS, (Jan. 5, 2006) - South Hall, CES Booth #31133-Targus Inc., maker of the world's best-selling notebook cases and accessories, today announced two new additions to its DEFCON™ line of security locks for notebook computers - the DEFCON CL Armor Combo Lock and the DEFCON SVPCL Serialized Video Port Combo Lock. The new locks join the successful line of DEFCON notebook security products, to provide mobile users a wide variety of options for protecting their notebook computers from theft.
"The ease and convenience of traveling with notebook computers makes business travel much more productive," said Michael Greco, director, U.S. product marketing, for Targus. "DEFCON locks from Targus provide an effective deterrent from theft, making us a leader in this category. The company continues to expand and improve the range of notebook security devices we offer for both corporate accounts and consumers."
The DEFCON serialized combination locks offer the convenience of "key-less" security, offering corporate customers access to a secure, password-protected Web site to retrieve lost or forgotten combinations rather than the conventional "master key" solution, which requires the time-consuming and risky process of sending a master key to an employee out on the road, maintaining a duplicate set of keys or calling a locksmith.
DEFCON CL Armor Combo Cable Lock (Model #ASP10US)
Offering simple yet effective security, the new Armor Combo Cable Lock incorporates extreme "cut-resistant" steel-on-steel cable construction that attaches to any notebook computer, desktop monitor or projector with a lock slot. The Armor Lock's steel cable is covered by steel ringlets to prevent the cable from being cut with cable-cutters. In fact, the steel ringlets are so strong that attempts to cut the cable typically result in damage to the cutters. Each user determines their own four-digit combination. The cable is 6.5 feet long, fits any standard lock slot, and comes with a limited one year warranty. Suggested retail price is $54.99 with availability in March.

DEFCON SVPCL - Serialized Video Port Combo Lock (Model #PA492S-1)
The DEFCON SVPCL Combo Locks are pre-set at the factory with a four-digit combination and can be attached to any computer, projector or LCD monitor equipped with a video port. Corporate customers are assigned a password-protected secure account, which can be accessed only by the IT manager. When users forget or lose their combinations, the IT manager logs onto the secure site and enters the serial number etched in the head of the lock to retrieve the user's combination.
Featuring a patented pass-through video port cable to provide functionality and convenience, the SVPCL pass-through cable simply plugs into the monitor or projector video cable, allowing the monitor to be used as well as secured. Constructed of vinyl-coated stainless steel cable measuring 6.5 feet long, the SVPCL includes a security base plate with screws and a desktop PC chassis lock adapter. Offered with a limited one year warranty, the suggested retail price is $29.99 with availability in March.
