Q. DEFCON Cable Lock. What is a DEFCON Cable Lock and how does it work?
A. The DEFCON CL is the only system that combines a galvanized steel cable with a high quality 4 digit re-settable combination lock designed to fit the security lock slot of most notebook computers. It weighs only 6.2 ounces and is perfect for travel. With over 9,000 user-settable combinations, this keyless notebook cable lock frees you from the hassle of carrying or losing a key. The DEFCON Cable Lock (CL) utilizes 6.5 feet of cut-resistant, galvanized steel cable to attach your notebook to any secure object. Simply loop the lock around a desk or chair, insert the DEFCON CL into your notebook's lock slot and set the combination. The included security base plate provides another convenient way to lock down a notebook or desktop equipped with a security lock slot. With up to 10,000 user-settable combinations, the DEFCON CL is the first notebook security product to offer the benefits and convenience of a keyless solution.

Q. Difficult to insert into/stay connected to my Notebook. My notebook has a Lock slot, but I cant get the DEFCON CL to stay attached. Can you help?
A. There are many variations of notebook lock slots. Some fit nicely and others do need an extra push. One tip to try is while pressing in on the DEFCON CL lock slot attachment, apply pressure to the opposite side of the notebook.
Also, the foam on the locking head is only there for cosmetic purposes. The lock will function just as effectively without the foam and it can be removed to make the insertion of the DEFCON CL locking head easier.
Q. Using the DEFCON CL on various desks/surfaces. How can I use the DEFCON CL on my desk when it has no legs?
A. Included with the DEFCON CL package is a DEFCON Base Plate. This Base Plate can be securely attached to any solid surface and then used to loop the DEFCON CL cable through the base plate.
Q. Lost Combinations. How can I unlock the DEFCON CL when the combination has been lost?
A. There is no magic button on the DEFCON CL. If the combination is lost, the cable is unusable. Since there are 9000 different combinations the lock cannot be easily picked. In this situation, Targus Technical Support can supply directions for cutting off the DEFCON CL without causing any damage to your notebook.
