Marketing - To set the EcoSmart range apart from our standard product offering we have formed an affiliation with the World Land Trust (WLT). This organisation is an international conservation charity which was founded in 1989. The World Land Trust has been working to preserve the world's most biologically important and threatened lands, and has helped purchase and protect over 375,000 acres of habitats rich in wildlife, in Asia, Central and South America and the UK. The sponsorship that Targus has pledged to WLT will fund the purchase of land to save Orang-utans in Borneo. Office - Beyond the core of our EcoSmart™ Family of Products, Targus employees are driving down the path to green with a company-wide transition towards: recycled and renewable office supplies; climate control and reuse of shipping materials. Packaging - Targus has launched a new initiative aimed at minimising the amount of material used in our packaging and adopting the latest alternative materials. Use of recycled materials on hang tags; wraps and insert cards are just the beginning of our effort to leverage the use of reusable post-consumer materials in our packaging. What makes EcoSmart™ Products Green? Every aspect of the EcoSmart™ range from design to manufacture has been carefully considered to provide eco-friendly products. Time has been taken in selecting the most responsible components while the designs are simple but contemporary. All in all achieving a high quality product set which reduces wastage, uses recycled materials, has nickel free fittings and green compliant fillings. The main case fabric is made from 100% recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) which is totally recyclable and commonly used in packaging and bottles. The material derives from the recycling of PET products after consumption by going through a process to create yarn which then makes fabric. All metal components on the cases are nickel free which means that they are totally recyclable at the end of their life. Current Targus cases, including the eco-friendly case lines, fall under specific standards to keep these products free from specified toxic materials. Targus cases are in line with the RoHS Compliance Standards, a standard set in 2006 to ban harmful toxins from electronic components sold in Europe. Targus metal case components do not include harmful levels of the six materials that are against RoHS Compliance Standards: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ether. Qualified factories with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard accreditation are used. This ensures that environment-related laws and standards are met and green products are produced in a safe environment in materials which are less toxic to the environment.
