Targus introduces state of the art biometric security product for Thinkpad Notebook users.
Anaheim, CA (January 8, 2002) - Targus Inc. today introduced the latest in portable and desktop PC security -- DEFCON? Authenticator. Targus' new DEFCON Authenticator utilized biometrics technology to prevent unauthorized persons from logging onto and accessing vital company and personal information on any desktop or notebook personal computer. This lightweight and easy-to-carry security device is the first of its kind to incorporate a two-port USB Hub. It connects to a user's computer via the USB port and permits secure access via an authenticated fingerprint.

"Targus is proud to offer their customers advanced security through the DEFCON Authenticator," said John Sargent, Vice President, Corporate Communications, Targus Group International, Inc. "We are able to provide our users with physical property security through our DEFCON 1 and DEFCON 3 products, and now DEFCON Authenticator provides enhanced security for user information and data."

The DEFCON Authenticator incorporates such cutting edge features as TruePrint? technology and SecureSuite? software. TruePrint technology, from leading Biometrics hardware developer AuthenTec, is a patented subsurface technology that senses and authenticates the "live" or second layer of skin, where true fingerprints begin, enabling the precise measurement of biometric data for enhanced user security.

The DEFCON Authenticator relieves users from having to keep track of numerous passwords and also provides maximum protection for notebooks containing sensitive and confidential information with DEFCON Authenticator's bundled software, SecureSuite. Developed by I/O

Software, SecureSuite offers users a number of features, including Windows? logon, the storage of user names and passwords for Windows and Web-based forms, the protection of files and folders with strong encryption and the prevention of unauthorized users from accessing Windows applications.

Weighing only 5 ounces and measuring 2.7" x 1.9" x .8" inches, DEFCON Authenticator is the only biometrics device of its kind to incorporate two additional USB ports for peripheral usage. The unit utilizes AuthenTec's FS 4000 silicon sensor and utilizes CMOS chip sensor technology.

The Targus DEFCON Authenticator will be available soon for $119.99 through www.targus.com and www.port.com. The DEFCON Authenticator will also be available from major electronic retailers nationwide.
