Four Canadian executives nearing finish line of three-month walkathon in support of "Weekend to End Breat Cancer"
Targus Canada president spearheads “Paces with Cases” fundraiser, challenging leaders of Synnex, Tech Data and Ingram Micro to outwalk him for charity

MISSISSAUGA, ON, August 23, 2005 - Zeno Ricci, president of Targus Canada and Targus Latin America, is confident he has walked further than the leaders of Canada’s three largest technology distribution companies over the past three months – and he’s putting his money where his mouth is in an effort to find a cure for breast cancer.

Ricci is competing against Rick Reid, president of Tech Data Canada Corporation, Martin Kalsbeek, vice president and general manager of Ingram Micro, and Jim Estill, chief executive officer of Synnex Canada to determine who can walk the furthest from June 1 to August 31.

All agreed to wear pedometers over the summer and a winner will be declared on August 31. Ricci will donate one dollar to The Weekend to End Breast Cancer for every kilometer his competitors exceed his total. Those walking less than Ricci will do the same.

"Almost everyone at Targus has been touched by breast cancer,” said Lisa MacDonald-Steward, marketing manager for Targus Canada. “Whether through a mother, sister or family friend, the impact of breast cancer can be devastating. It’s the most frequently diagnosed cancer in Canadian women and Targus is determined to help change that.”

“I accepted the challenge of wearing the pedometer without hesitation since cancer has touched all of us in one way or another and because The Weekend to End Breast Cancer walk is truly a spectacular and inspirational event,” said Rick Reid, President of Tech Data Canada Corporation. “My pedometer has traveled with me from the east to west coast and before this competition ends it will also have done a tour of duty in Europe on my family vacation.”

“This has been one of the most unique fundraising experiences I’ve ever participate in,” said Jim Estill, chief executive officer of Synnex Canada. “I wear my pedometer everywhere - even while I’m training for my next marathon - and take every opportunity to encourage people around me to donate to the Weekend to End Breast Cancer.”

Targus Canada’s support for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer is the latest in a series of initiatives Targus has undertaken to help find a cure for breast cancer. On March 30, 2005, Targus committed to donating $10 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation for every “Targus Makes a Case for the Cure” donation tag, found on select Ladies Line carrying cases, mailed back to the company.

Targus has donated $12,000 to the Princess Margaret Hospital for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer on behalf of its partners and customers. A team from Targus Canada will join thousands of men and women on a 60-kilometer walk through the streets of Toronto from Friday, September 9, through Sunday, September 11 for the major Weekend to End Breast Cancer fundraiser.

Targus Canada’s “Paces with Cases” team will carry a Ribbon of Hope during the walk. The ribbon holds hundreds of names on it written by Targus Canada’s national distribution partners and its employees, names of people they would like honoured through the walk.

Targus’ “Paces with Cases” team is comprised of the following:
  • Holly Adair – Channel Marketing Coordinator
  • Kim Francis – National Channel Sales Manager
  • Lisa MacDonald-Steward – Marketing Manager
  • Rui Tristao – Academic and Reseller Sales Representative
  • Susan Fraser- Corporate Sales Representative
  • Susan James – Distribution Account Representative
Targus is also currently running national reseller promotions via its distributor partners. On selected products a donation per unit sold to given to the Weekend to End Breast Cancer.
